Oscar Einzig is pleased to announce that our entry in the IAEE’s 2009 Art of the Show Competition has received First Place recognition.

The winning photo is from RSNA 2008, and is in the Show Photography, Over 150,000 nsf category.  It will be on display at Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition, held December 8th - 10th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hourly photography rates conceal much more than they reveal. They are the tip of the iceberg! Every hour of photography requires at least two additional hours to include down-loading, editing and logistical planning.

Professional digital photography must not be confused with instant photography and must be set apart from and above even the best amateur photography. Years of skills building, talent, creativity, imagination, passion and professional follow- through distinguish professional photography from all levels of amateur or hobbyist photography. Covering a whole conference or multi-hour event in all of its facets and intricacies is in no way similar to taking a few good photos of an event. Thoroughness, consistency and quality mixed with imagination, passion, logistical savvy, communications skills and dedication are absolutely necessary for achieving the client‘s requirements at every event.

Creating professional images in-camera is the middle of the production process. Client objectives cannot simply be met solely with top flight equipment maintained regularly because delivery of a one-time realizable product requires custom service which is developed through hours of pre-production meeting, planning, travel to the site and hours of post-production for proper editing, sharpening, color correcting, cropping and maintaining of images on sites.

Oscar Einzig delivers excellent quality consistently from beginning to end within days that run on the average from eight to sixteen hours! This consistency and quality is something that amateurs can’t achieve regardless of their level of talent. Now more than ever, why risk the possibility of having unusable or unsuitable marketing images because you saved some money only in the short-term? It is not possible to recreate missed images from expensive marketing events, conferences, seminars, awards ceremonies, and entire trade shows once they are over.

As one of the official show photographers for NPE (the world’s largest plastics conference and expo) I was asked to provide in-depth photographic coverage of the Society of Plastics Industry’s on show-site recycling program. The recycling program drop-off was placed very prominently in the McCormick South Hall near the north most restaurant pod. This gave the drop-off area an extremely colorful and  visible location close to the most crowded eating area at the show!

SPI strategically collaborated with  Freeman, Maine Plastics and other partners to expand the NPE 2009 program goals of recycling more badges and constructed, samples from exhibitors than at their previous NPE 2006 show. Several volunteers hauled plastic material from booths to the loading docks. At the loading docks several young volunteers loaded and poured plastic debris into huge cartons on skids ready for export to the recycling plant. At one point several of them bolted into the  open cartons to stand on top  of the contents unique to each one to pose for an “in-the grit of it” action shot!

The “command” center for the entire operation was in one of the 400 series “overlook” rooms that look out onto the show floor. In addition, many of the world class chemists and engineers speaking at seminars mentioned directly the industry’s very long term commitment to recycling.

We are deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Michael Jackson.  Oscar Einzig had the opportunity of photographing him during the 2003 CABLE Show held in Chicago.  We have attached a couple of photos of this shoot.  I was at the show the day that rumors were flying that Jackson was to appear at one of the exhibitor’s booth.   You would have thought that the pope or a president was attending, as there were throngs of people congregating in and around the aisles where Jackson was appearing.  In fact, when he did arrive the rest of the show floor (and we are talking about a big floor over 200,000 net square feet) looked deserted.  I have never seen anything like it and I have been in the events industry for 25 years.  It was a day I will never forget. 

This small example is proof of the popularity and impact that Jackson had with people from all over the world.  He will be missed, but his music will live on forever.

As a staff photographer, I recently photographed the National Restaurant Association (NRA) convention at McCormick Place in Chicago. The show was held in both the North and South buildings. From a personal observation I found each day of the show to be very well attended from many different vantage points.

A wide variety of food from around the world was being displayed. Several of the exhibitors allowed the attendees to sample their food and culture. There were also several cooking demos each day showcasing local and world renown chefs. There were also celebrity chefs to the delight of the attendees. Each chef would create wonderful dishes and then invite the attendees to sample the food after the demonstration.

Also, there were several book signings each day from these same prominent chefs. Many attendees were lined up ahead of time waiting for their favorite chef. The chefs were friendly and also posed for pictures. The 2009 NRA show had an extremely positive, upbeat atmosphere considering the current economic climate.

On Monday May 4th EventGallery provided a large scale Green Screen production. The job consisted of five stations, fifteen staff working, six different backgrounds. This event was the opening reception and concert for the 2009 Wind Power show held at McCormick Place West.

Over 8000 attendees gathered to see Blues Traveler, and be entertained with various activities outside of the ballroom. Our photos were one of the interactive experiences around the room. We had five stations set up with photographers and computer techs providing immediate on site 4×6 prints for guests during the event.

Green screen technology is where an individual is photographed in front of a green background and then placed into another image. Below David Held, a staff photographer is capturing a woman for the Blues Traveler image.

This was a very successful event that involved a lot of preplanning on behalf of our staff to ensure its success. EventGallery has unlimited capabilities when it comes to providing Green Screen Photography at large events; and the Wind Power event is a perfect example.

We just returned from the Kitchen & Bath Show in Atlanta, where we were the official photography firm. The show began with a Gala in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park benefitting the Boys & Girls Club. The show floor featured the latest in kitchen and bath designs while the association recognized aspiring and seasoned designers for their efforts in excellent kitchen, bath, accessible, and green design.

Urologists from around the globe gathered at The Field Museum in Chicago
for an incredible opening party. Once again, AUA did an amazing job at
showcasing the cities cultural heritage in a great location. I know that
AUA’09 attendees will go back to their homes knowing that Chicago is
strong contender to host 2016 Olympics!

Sue the dinosaur is entertained at the AUA Opening Reception by the
Jimmy Burns Blues Band and other acts!

A couple weeks ago I left Oscar headquarters and traveled to Las Vegas to work at the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention. Despite the economy, the event was very well attended. The show filled all three exhibit halls at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The latest in broadcast technology was apparent throughout the convention center. Celebrities from every aspect of broadcasting were present. Bob Newhart was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and Kelsey Grammer was the NAB Chairman’s Award Winner.

NAB is a very “connected” show. Many forms of media are available almost immediately as events happen at the show. Videos are available several times a day. They use a blog and Twitter to keep attendees informed on daily happenings.

NAB also requires a lot of show photography and that is where Oscar Einzig comes in. My main onsite responsibility was to manage the photos of the different events we shot. From these, I would pick the 5-10 best images that represented the event. Several times each day, I would meet with NAB staff and review the images for them to use for their online newsroom. These photos are then used by the media to complement their stories, either in print or online.

I really enjoy working at the NAB shows each year. Their staff is wonderful and the show is always exciting. I am looking forward to working at the Radio Show in Philadelphia later this year.
